Definitions:

Matronymic Byname: From the Glossary of Terms - A byname given to offspring to indicate the name of the mother. The daughter of a Yorkshirewoman named Rose// might take the matronymic //Rosedoghter//. Sometimes spelled "metronymic". //See also Byname, Patronymic. [[1]]

There are also "mother of" bynames given to mothers to indicate their offspring.

Period Examples:

Arabic:

• Umm Ma'bad Amirah al-Zahra' bint 'Abd al-Aziz al-Azhar ibn Malik ibn Mansur is one such example in Arabic, registered in the SCA.
• Um(m) and Om(m) are different transliterations of the Arabic writing into Latin typescript. (In the above example, Amirah is the lady's given name.)

Dutch:
