Definition:[edit | edit source]

From the Glossary of Terms: A charge or group of charges that are placed on the field near the edge of a piece of armory without affecting the rest of the design. Peripheral charges include (but are not limited to): the chief, the bordure, the base (including the point pointed), the quarter, the canton, the gyron, the orle, the double tressure, and flaunches. Gores and gussets are not// peripheral charges (because they extend so far into the center of the field). Peripheral charges are never primary charges, even if they are the only charges on the field. Peripheral Charge Groups are a type of secondary charge group. //See also Field Primary Armory, Ordinary, Primary Charge Group, Secondary Charge Group, Semy, Tertiary Charge Group. [[1]]

January 2008 LoAR - a chief and a bordure[edit | edit source]

#196Albrecht of Caer Anterth-Mor. Device. Azure, a gryphon segreant argent and on a chief Or three fountains, overall a bordure counterchanged. The most common depiction of a chief and a bordure has the chief overlying the bordure; however, precedent indicates that there are some examples of bordures overlying chiefs (v. Ambrosius MacDaibhidh, December 1995). .. http://heraldry.sca.org/loar/2008/01/08-01lar.html

January 2008 LoAR - a chief and a bordure and counterchanging[edit | edit source]

Prior precedent states: > Please note that the design of counterchanging a bordure over a pile is considered "a weirdness" in the SCA - a single step from period practice (per the LoAR of July 2001). One such step in armory is acceptable, but more than one such step is considered too far from period practice and reason for return. [Clef of Cividale, 03/03, R-Calontir] Similarly, barring period evidence of such counterchanging, counterchanging a bordure over a chief is also a step from period practice. http://heraldry.sca.org/loar/2008/01/08-01lar.html
