December 2015 - abased chevronells:

#354Cloondara, Shire of. Badge. Or, three chevronels vert, overall two towers in fess gules. This badge is returned for redraw, for having abased chevronels where the move is not forced by other elements of the design. Precedent from the LoAR January 1992 states: > "These bendlets are enhanced so much to chief that the style becomes unacceptably modern" [Penelopee of the Quill, R-East, Jan 1992 LoAR]. February 2014 - abased fess and per fess line:

#95Fionnghuala de Saint Barbe. Device. Per pale lozengy vert and argent and gules, a fess wavy argent. This device is returned for conflict with the important non-SCA flag of Seychelles, Per fess abased gules and vert, a fess abased wavy argent. There is a DC for the change in field, but nothing for the difference between a fess and a fess abased. Commenters questioned whether or not there was an identifiability issue with the fess wavy on this field, which may be unidentifiable against the lozengy vert and argent portion of the field as it shares a tincture with that half. If the field were entirely lozengy vert and argent, there would likely be an identifiability problem. However, as the fess wavy has high contrast with the other half of the field, and we have no reason to believe it to be an asymmetrical charge, it is identifiable. http://heraldry.sca.org/loar/2014/02/14-02lar.html

November 2002 - abased chevron:

Overly abased ordinaries suffer from the same problem. > In the particular case of this chevron, this design could also be interpreted as a voided point pointed. Points pointed may not be voided per RfS VIII.3, which states that "Voiding and fimbriation may only be used with simple geometric charges placed in the center of the design." > On redesign, the submitter should be careful to avoid conflict with Conrad d'Anjou, Azure, a chevron and in chief two sheaves of arrows argent, and Alyna of Snow Camp, Azure, two seahorses addorsed, tails nowed, and in chief a decrescent argent. http://heraldry.sca.org/loar/2002/11/02-11lar.html

July 1993 - saltire abased:

Angus Ulrich. Device. Vert, in chief an eagle displayed, facing sinister, and in base a saltire, overall an orle of chain Or. This raised some question in the commentary as to whether the saltire could legitimately be "abased" (not issuant from the corners of the chief), as in this submission. Normally, the placement of a saltire is fixed by the points of the shield: the upper limbs issue from the corners of the chief, as would bends// and //bends sinister.// However, using the 13th Century arms of FitzWalter (//Or, a fess between two chevrons gules//) as a model, we decided that a hypothetical //Or, a fess between two saltires gules would be acceptable style -- which would therefore argue that a saltire need not automatically issue from the corners of the chief, but might move to chief or to base if the design dictated. We also decided that such movement should be noted in the blazon, either implicitly (as in our hypothetical example) or explicitly (as in this submission). http://heraldry.sca.org/loar/1993/07/lar.html
