#Precedents:-Definition:Definition:[edit | edit source]

September 2006 - default wings, default posture:[edit | edit source]

Blazoned on the LoI as bees proper, the wings are Or, not argent, thus they are not proper. Changing the tincture of a bee's wings is a CD, as the wings are half the charge when the bee is in its default posture (volant en arriere). [Brokenbridge, Canton of, [[11]] P-East]

July 2006 - bee proper primarily metal:[edit | edit source]

[Argent, in pale a bee statant bendwise proper] ...A bee proper is not neutral - it is primarily metal... [Violet Elliott, [[12]] R-Atenveldt]

July 2005 - beehive default without bees:[edit | edit source]

[Gules semy of bees, a beehive Or] There was a question of possible conflict with Piers DeGrey, Gules, a beehive and a bordure Or. As the Pictorial Dictionary (s.v. Beehive) notes, if a beehive is beset by bees, this fact should be blazoned. In fact, Piers's armory does not depict any bees... [Therasia Mellita, [[13]] A-Atlantia]

March 2005 - proper tincture: The proper tincture for bees is defined in precedent as "sable and Or, with argent wings" [2005 LoAR Cover Letter]

December 2002 - default wings for statant: "In the SCA, a bee statant has its wings addorsed by default" [2002 LoAR]

May 2010 - beehive vs. tower:[edit | edit source]

#172Antonia di Lorenzo. Per pale gules and vert, a tower between three bees Or. As charges which had independent existence in period, there is at least significant difference between a beehive and a tower. Therefore, this device is clear of the device of Roland of Skep Glen, Vert, a beehive between three bees wings close Or. There is a CD for the field and a CD for the change of type of primary charge. As substantial difference is not needed to clear this conflict, we decline to rule at this time on the question of whether there is substantial difference between a tower and a beehive. http://heraldry.sca.org/loar/2010/05/10-05lar.html

April 2008 - bee vs fly:[edit | edit source]

[a bee vs. a fly] ... but nothing for changing the type of insect. [Hannibal Beman, [[14]] R-Ansteorra]

April 2008 - tincture of wings:[edit | edit source]

[a bee proper] The submitted badge does not conflict with ... bee displayed barry sable and Or, winged Or, nor does it conflict with ... A bee Or. In each case there is a CD ... for changing the tincture of the wings, which are considered to be half the charge. [Hannibal Beman, [[15]] R-Ansteorra]

September 2006 - tincture of wings:[edit | edit source]

Blazoned on the LoI as bees proper, the wings are Or, not argent, thus they are not proper. Changing the tincture of a bee's wings is a CD, as the wings are half the charge when the bee is in its default posture (volant en arriere). [Brokenbridge, Canton of, [[16]] P-East]

July 2005 - beehive vs beehive beset by bees:[edit | edit source]

[Gules semy of bees, a beehive Or] There was a question of possible conflict with Piers DeGrey, Gules, a beehive and a bordure Or. As the Pictorial Dictionary (s.v. Beehive) notes, if a beehive is beset by bees, this fact should be blazoned. In fact, Piers's armory does not depict any bees. Therefore there is a CD for adding the semy of bees ... [Therasia Mellita, [[17]] A-Atlantia]

December 2002 - tergian fesswise vs statant:[edit | edit source]

"There is a CD between a bee tergiant fesswise and a bee statant. Both postures show the bees with fesswise bodies, but a bee tergiant fesswise has wings visible on both sides of the bee's body, while a bee statant only has wings visible on the chiefmost side of the body. This difference is worth a CD, analogous to the difference between a bird rising wings displayed and a bird rising wings addorsed." [2002 LoAR]

September 2001 - bee vs dragonfly:[edit | edit source]

"When drawn clearly, there is a CD between a bee and a dragonfly." [2001 LoAR]

December 1994 - semy vs three bees:[edit | edit source]

Rose Boncoeur. Badge. Vert semy of ears of wheat, a beehive Or. Visual conflict with Roland of Skep Glen (SCA), Vert, a beehive between three bees, wings closed, Or. While it can be argued that there are CD's for both number and type of the semi charges, the visual similarity between the two is overwhelming. [!!!!!] http://heraldry.sca.org/loar/1994/12/lar.html

July 2006 - bee proper primarily metal:[edit | edit source]

[Argent, in pale a bee statant bendwise proper] This device is returned for violating RfS VII.2.b - Contrast Requirements. The bee's wings have no contrast with the field and the bee itself has poor contrast with the field. A bee proper is not neutral - it is primarily metal. Please advise the submitter to draw larger wings so that the bee has a chance to make it back to his hive. [Violet Elliott, [[18]] R-Atenveldt]
