• Women in the sagas, particularly the more fanciful sagas, who are named <Hulð> (Hul{dh}) are almost always practitioners of seiðr (sei{dh}r), a type of witchcraft. Seiðr (sei{dh}r) by itself is neither intrinsically good or bad. The name <Hulð> (Hul{dh}) is used to indicate a stock character, a witch. The other place the name is found is for giantesses.
• E.H. Lind. Norsk-Isländska Dopnamn ock Fingerade Namn från Medeltiden (Norsk-Isla:ndska Dopnamn ock Fingerade Namn fra*n Medeltiden. Uppsala: A.-B. Lundequist. 1905-1915. http://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/009007424) is a pretty authoritative source, and it lists this name as purely fictional (Kv. fing., or "feminine fictional).
• <Hulda> appears in the Norwegian, Danish, and Swedish language versions of the Bible in 2 Kings 22:14 and 2 Chronicles 34:22. (In English the name appears as <Huldah>). However, the Institutet för språk och folkminnen (Institutet fo:r spra*k och folkminnen) says that <Hulda> didn't appear as a given name until the 1800s (http://www.sprakochfolkminnen.se/sprak/namn/personnamn/dagens-namn-i-almanackan/kalender/namnsdagar/namnkalender/2013-11-06-hulda.html).
