- Sayman (we get Seaman from that, "sea-man"), le Shipwrighte, Rooper (rope-maker), Pycher (one who covers or caulks with pitch). Botewright (a maker of boats). [is related the stocking of] ships.
- Use a locative byname based on a port which was known for its shipyards, and make a locative byname based on it, eg. a (late) period sailing term was "in Bristol fashion" meaning "done properly," so Bristol might be a good place to use as a locative byname.
